Communicare volunteers offer support, companionship and advocacy to elders struggling to maintain independent lives in the community with the aging and increased mobility of the population; many older people find themselves without family supports when they need them most. Volunteers provide connection and help with a variety of everyday tasks. They do the things family and friends would do if they were nearby.
Cookoff employs about 20 volunteers who gather six times a year to prepare up to 250 frozen dinners for distribution to frail or ill homebound persons. The need for the meals is great and they are picked up and utilized by the Salvation Army. Occasional comments about the food come in from recipients and they are always positive and appreciative.
Recycling provides a double benefit for the local Filter Square community - while improving the environment, it also raises nearly $7,000, which goes directly into CORP's budget.
